VMC - 20-Pocket Umbrella Tool Changer - Mechanical Switches and Proximity Sensors - Replacement

This procedure tells you how to replace the shuttle and carousel proximity sensors or mechanical switches on a 20-pocket umbrella tool changer. The procedure shows an umbrella tool changer with mechanical switches. The instructions are the same for proximity sensors.

Push POWER OFF. Set the main circuit breaker to the OFF position. Lock the main circuit breaker. Use an approved lock with an approved safety tag.

Remove the tool changer arm cover [1] and the cable channel cover [2]. Disconnect the shuttle-in and shuttle-out cables [3].

Remove the umbrella carriage assembly cover. Remove the carousel motor assembly [4]. Make sure the connector bracket is labeled with the locations of the carousel position sensors [5]. Replace the carousel position sensors [5].

Remove the cam follower assembly [7]. Push the carriage to the side to get access to the shuttle-out sensor [8]. Remove the sensor [8]. Put the other end of the cable [3] through the hole adjacent to the sensor [8]. Replace the sensor. Move the carriage to the other side of travel to replace the shuttle-in sensor.

Install the cam follower assembly [7] and the carousel motor assembly [4]. Apply dialectric grease to the carousel position, shuttle-in, and shuttle-out cable connectors. Connect the carousel position sensor cables to the correct locations on the connector bracket [6]. Connect the shuttle-in and shuttle-out cables [3].

Do a test of the tool changer for correct operation. Install the covers [1 and 2].

Be aware: Many service and repair procedures should be done only by authorized personnel. The service technicians at your Haas Factory Outlet (HFO) have the training, experience, and are certified to do these tasks safely and correctly. You should not do machine repair or service procedures unless you are qualified and knowledgeable about the processes.
