Spindle Drive Cabling

Yaskawa G5 to F7 Spindle Drive Cabling Changes

When you replace the Yaskawa G5 with a Yaskawa F7 spindle drive, you must make these changes to the cables:

  1. Put a new label on each conductor. Use the included label kit P/N 32-0232.
  2. Remove the crimp spade connectors. Remove the insulation from the end of the wire. Use a wire stripper tool.
  3. Connect the control cables as shown in the illustration that follows.
    note: There are no changes to the power connections.

Yaskawa F7 Spindle Drive Cable Termination

Yaskawa A1000 Spindle Drive Cabling Changes

To replace the drive from F7 to A1000, there is no change. Connect as necessary.

Put a new label on each conductor with cable label kit (P/N 32-0232). This kit is included if going from G5 to A1000. Remove the crimp spade connectors. Remove the insulation from the end of the wire. Use a wire stripper tool.

Remove the plastic tabs that cover B1, B2 [1] and -, +1 and +2 [2].

Spindle Drive Parameters

Mitsubishi and Magnetek Spindle Drive

Haas Automation uses motors from two manufacturers: Baldor and Lincoln. You can install these on a machine with a spindle drive (Mitsubishi A200 E, Magnetek G503, Magnetek G515). You must also change the parameters on the spindle drive, as shown in this table:

Parameter Programming for the Mitsubishi A200E

To change parameter 22 do these steps:.

  1. Connect the Mitsubishi A200E Parameter Unit (PU) (P/N 94-5001) into the front of the spindle drive.
  2. Push PU OP. The frequency setting screen shows.
  3. Push SET. The spindle drive goes into the parameter setting mode.
  4. Type 22. The screen for Parameter 22 shows.
  5. Push READ. The value for Parameter shows.
  6. Type 160 for a Lincoln motor or 170 for a Baldor motor. The new set value shows.
  7. Push WRITE to store the new value into memory.

Parameter Programming for the Mitsubishi A720

note: Set par #18 before other max speed parameter(s). To change parameters do these steps:
  1. Push MODE until P is shown.
  2. Scroll to parameter number.
  3. Push SET to change the selected parameter number. Note, a "-" in the column tells you that there is no change.
  4. Scroll to the value that needs to be entered.
  5. Press SET to set the parameter to that value.

Parameter Programming for the Magnetek G503

To change parameter Cn-28 do these steps:

  1. Apply power to the keypad. The drive lamp comes on.
  2. Push PRGM/DRIVE. The drive lamp goes off. The display shows the first Frequency Reference Memory Setting constant number: An-01.
  3. Push DSPL. The first Run Operative Setting constant number: Bn-01 shows.
  4. Push DSPL. The first System constant number: Sn-01 shows.
  5. Push DSPL. The first Control constant number: Cn-01 shows.
  6. Push the DOWN arrow to scroll down to Cn-28.
  7. Push DATA/ENTER. The current value of Cn-28 shows.
  8. Push <>>. The blinking part of the display shifts to the left.
  9. Push the UP or DOWN arrow to increase or decrease the blinking value until you reach the required value.
  10. Push DATA/ENTER. The display goes on continuously for a short time. The word "End" shows for approximately 1 second. The parameter shows again, with one digit blinking.
  11. Push DSPL. The display goes back to the beginning of the cycle.
  12. After all programming is completed, push PRGM/DRIVE. The G503 goes back to the drive mode.

Parameter Programming for the Magnetek G515 (Yaskawa GPD515)

To select and change parameters on the Magnetek G515 (Yaskawa GPD515) after the drive is on:

  1. Push MENU.
  2. Push the UP arrow until you are at PROGRAMMING. Push DATA/ENTER.
  3. Change the necessary parameters. You change the parameters in groups: A, B, C, etc. Use the UP and DOWN arrow keys to scroll to the different groups. When you are at a group where a change is necessary, push ENTER. Use the UP and DOWN arrow keys to go to the incorrect parameter. Enter the correct value. Push ESCto exit the group.

Yaskawa parameters are set automatically. Refer to the section called Parameter Programming for the Yaskawa G5 and F7, below.

Parameter Programming for the Yaskawa G5 and F7

  1. Initialize the inverter for Haas machines (Yaskawa parameter A1-03 = 2220) for 2-wire control. The drive will show Entry Accepted but will continue to show 0000 as the entered value.
    1. Push MENU (3) times to go to Programming. Push DATA ENTER to go to the parameter group list.
    2. Push the DOWN arrow (1) time to access P1-01 and push DATA ENTER.
    3. Push the UP and DOWN arrow keys to select machine configuration 1-10 and push DATA ENTER.

      Machine Selection for A1-06

      1. For A1-06 the default settings changed based on the table below.

        Change parameter E1-04 to 253.0.

  1. Push POWER OFF on the machine. Wait for the drive's display to go off. Push POWER ON on the machine. The drive parameters are now correctly set for the selected machine.

Drive Initialization:

  1. Set A1-03 to 2220
    note: Note: After selecting 2220, “0 No Initialize” will be displayed. This is normal and the entry has been accepted.
  2. Set A1-06 to the corresponding machine listed in the table.

  3. Push POWER OFF and wait for the drive’s display to turn off, then push POWER ON.

Identify the motor manufacturer and set Parameter 180 and 181 based on the value set in Parameter 183, Sp MAX FREQ.

Be aware: Many service and repair procedures should be done only by authorized personnel. The service technicians at your Haas Factory Outlet (HFO) have the training, experience, and are certified to do these tasks safely and correctly. You should not do machine repair or service procedures unless you are qualified and knowledgeable about the processes.

Danger: Some service procedures can be dangerous or life-threatening. DO NOT attempt a procedure that you do not completely understand. Contact your Haas Factory Outlet (HFO) and schedule a service technician visit if you have any doubts about doing a procedure.
