Coolant-Level Float - Installation - Introduction

The coolant-level float sensor is available for these tanks:
  1. 55-gallon tank
  2. 95-gallon tank
  3. DT-1 tank
  4. ST-40 tank
Safety Notes
Caution: When you do maintenance or repair on CNC machines and their components, you must always follow basic safety precautions. This decreases the risk of injury and mechanical damage.

Do these steps before you do work in the machine or in the control cabinet:
  • Set the main circuit breaker to the OFF position.
  • Use an approved lock with an approved safety tag. Always follow lock-out procedures in accordance to local government rules.
  • After turning off the machine, wait at least 5 minutes before working in the control cabinet, to allow power to dissipate. Wait for the voltage indicator LED on the vector drive to go off completely.
  • Always turn off the main air supply when you work on any part of the pneumatic system.
  • Make sure to rest the spindle head on a block of wood when work is done on a vertical axis. This will prevent any unintended movement that could result in the axis falling.
  • Never alter any safety circuits on the machine.
You should not do machine repair or service procedures unless you are qualified and knowledgeable about the processes. Serious damage to the machine components can result in costly repairs. The service technicians at your Haas Factory Outlet (HFO) have the training and experience, and are certified to do these tasks safely and correctly. The repair and service work performed by your HFO is protected with a limited warranty.

Prerequisites

For a new machine installation (machine with a rear-panel M12 cable), use the coolant float M12 assembly P/N 30-30090C.

For a field replacement (machine with a rear-panel Amphenol cable or RJ-12 cable), use the coolant sensor field adapter kit P/N 93-2257.

Machine Compatibility

The machine must have one of these tanks:
  • 55-gallon tank
  • 95-gallon tank
  • DT-1 tank
  • ST-40 tank
The machine must have mill software version 11.17 or higher, or lathe software version 4.21 or higher.

Coolant-Level Float - Installation

Step 1

Push POWER OFF.
For a tank lid with dimples [4]:
  • Put the float [5] from the COOLANT FLOAT ASSEMBLY [A] into the tank.
  • Align the housing dimples [3] with the dimples on the tank lid [4].
  • Push the housing [1] down onto the side of the tank.
  • Put the cable [2] from the assembly to the coolant electrical connection panel.
For a tank lid with a cutout [8]:
  • Put the float [9] from the COOLANT FLOAT ASSEMBLY [A] into the tank.
  • Push the housing [6] down onto the cutout [8] of the tank lid.
  • Put the cable [7] from the assembly to the electrical connection panel.
note: The location of the electrical connector panel changes with the machine type.

Step 2

For a machine with a rear-panel M12 cable, do this step:
  • Connect the cable [1] from the ASSEMBLY [A] to the rear-panel coolant SENSOR [C] (M12 cable).
For a machine with a rear-panel Amphenol cable or RJ-12 cable, do these steps:
  1. Disconnect the rear-panel Amphenol cable (or RJ-12 cable) from P22 on the Maincon.
  2. Remove the rear-panel Amphenol cable (or RJ-12 cable) from the rear of the electrical connection panel.
  3. Put the o-ring [2] from the old M12 cable on the SENSOR CABLE [C] (M12 cable). Put a WASHER [B] on the sensor cable.
  4. Attach the sensor cable to the rear of the electrical connection panel. Use a WASHER [B] and the nut [3].
  5. Connect the sensor cable to P22 on the Maincon.
  6. Connect the cable [1] from the ASSEMBLY [A] to the sensor cable.

Step 3

Push POWER ON.

Push PARAMETER/DIAGNOSTICS until the parameters show. Go to the SYSTEM tab.
Push E-STOP.

Make sure the values for Parameters 603 and 604 are correct.

If the Parameters are not correct, turn Setting 7 OFF. Put the correct value into Parameter 603 and Parameter 604.

Step 4

To make sure the coolant tank float operates correctly, do these steps:

  1. Push MEMORY on the pendant.
  2. The upper-right corner of the screen shows a COOLANT level arrow. When the float goes up, the arrow goes up [1]. When the float goes down, the arrow goes down [2].
