ST-20/25/30/35/Y, DS-30/Y/SS/SSY – Turret Indexer Assembly - Clamp Switch/Unclamp Switch - Adjustment - Introduction

This procedure tells you how to correctly adjust the clamp (engaged) switch and the unclamp (disengaged) switch on the turret. This procedure is applicable to ST-20-35Y, DS-30/Y/SS/SSY.

Prerequisites

Necessary Tool: Air regulator tool assembly
  • 1 Air Regulator: (P/N 53-0101)
  • 3 fittings: (P/N 58-1693)
  • 1 reducer fitting: (P/N 58-3665)
  • 1 quick-connect fitting: (P/N 58-3710)
  • 1 fitting coupler: (P/N 58-0577)
  • 10 ft. of 1/2" OD Polyurethane Hose (P/N 58-0730)

ST-20/25/30/35/Y, DS-30/Y/SS/SSY – Turret Indexer Assembly - Turret - Fully Clamped Check

Do this test to make sure that the turret is in the fully clamped (engaged) position.

Step 1

Look at the turret coolant nozzle [2].

Make sure the turret coolant nozzle is engaged with a coolant hole [1] on the back of the turret.

Step 2

Change Setting 7 to OFF.

Change Parameter 43:18 INVIS AXIS to 0.

Step 3

Push .0001/.1.
Push CURNT COMDS.
Push PAGE DOWN until the POSITION screen shows.
Jog the A Axis in the positive (+) direction until LOAD changes from 0% to 4%.
Jog the A Axis in the negative (-) direction until LOAD changes to 4% in the opposite direction.
Jog the A Axis in the positive (+) direction until LOAD changes from 4% to 0%.

If no alarms show, the turret is fully clamped (engaged).

ST/DS-20/25/30/35/Y - Turret - Clamp Switch/Unclamp Switch - Adjustment Check

Step 1

Put the travel indicator on the top of the housing. Adjust the position of the indicator until the tip of the indicator touches the back of the turret.

Move the indicator in the direction of the turret until the indicator shows approximately 0.3" (8 mm). Note: Do this to make sure that the range of the indicator is more than the turret movement. The turret moves approximately 0.25" (6 mm) when it disengages (“unclamps”).

Set the indicator dial to 0.

Step 2

Attach the input of the air-regulator tool to an air source.

Find the AIR UNCLAMP fitting adjacent to the AIR UNCLAMP label on the casting. Attach the output of the air-regulator tool to the AIR UNCLAMP fitting.

Step 3

Turn the knob to slowly increase the pressure.

Monitor Tool Turret Unl. on the DGNOS page while you slowly increase the pressure.

Stop immediately when Tool Turret Unl. changes to 1.

Look at the indicator.

If the unclamp switch is correctly adjusted, the indicator shows a value between 0.170" (4.3 mm) and 0.175" (4.4 mm).

Step 4

Turn the knob slowly to decrease the pressure.

Monitor T. Turret Locked on the DGNOS page while you slowly decrease the pressure.

Stop immediately when T. Turret Locked changes to 1.

Look at the indicator.

If the clamp switch is correctly adjusted, the indicator shows a value between 0.055" (1.4 mm) and 0.060" (1.5 mm).

If the clamp or unclamp switch is not correctly adjusted, do the next procedure ("ST/DS-20/25/30/35/Y - Turret - Clamp Switch/Unclamp Switch - Adjustment").

ST/DS-20/25/30/35/Y - Turret - Clamp Switch/Unclamp Switch - Adjustment

Monitor the indicator while you increase the pressure. Increase the pressure until the turret moves a minimum of 0.170" (4.3 mm), but not more than 0.175" (4.4 mm).

Step 4

Find the (2) screws [1] that attach the unclamp-switch bracket.

Loosen the (2) screws. Keep the screws tight enough to control the adjustment.

Monitor Tool Turret Unl. on the DGNOS page.

Move the bracket until Tool Turret Unl. changes to 1.

Tighten the (2) screws [1].

Step 5

Monitor the indicator while you decrease the pressure.

Decrease the pressure until the turret is between 0.055" (1.4 mm) and 0.060" (1.5 mm) from the fully clamped position.

Step 6

Find the (2) screws [1] that attach the clamp-switch bracket.

Loosen the (2) screws. Keep the screws tight enough to control the adjustment.

Monitor T. Turret Locked on the DGNOS page.

Move the bracket until T. Turret Locked changes to 1.

Tighten the (2) screws [1].

Do the "ST/DS-20/25/30/35/Y - Turret - Clamp Switch/Unclamp Switch - Adjustment Check" procedure.

note: When you clamp (engage) the turret, the clamp switch can apparently change (2) times and cause an alarm. If this occurs, do the adjustment procedure again. But make these changes to the procedure:
  • For step 3, use 0.155" (3.9 mm) as an alternative to 0.170" (4.3 mm)-0.175" (4.4 mm).
  • For step 5, use 0.035" (0.89 mm) as an alternative to 0.055" (1.4 mm)-0.060" (1.5 mm).
If this occurs, report it to the Haas Service Department.
