VMC - Side-Mount Tool Changer - 810/820 Cable - Replacement

This procedure tells you how to replace the 810/820 cable for the side-mount tool changer (SMTC).

This procedure tells you how to replace these two types of SMTC 810/820 cables:

  • Cables with amphenol connectors [1] that attach to the side of the control cabinet. These types of cables connect to the amphenol connector and go to the SMTC assembly.
  • Cables without an amphenol connector [2] go through the top of the control cabinet and connect from the SMTC assembly directly to the I/O PCB.

Prerequisites

This procedure is applicable to more than one kit. Only one of the kits in the Parts Included section is necessary.

Step 1

Push POWER OFF. Set the main circuit breaker to the OFF position. Lock the main circuit breaker. Use an approved lock with an approved safety tag.

danger: After turning off the machine, wait at least 5 minutes before working in the control cabinet, to allow power to dissipate. Wait for the voltage indicator LED on the vector drive to go off completely.
Some service procedures can be dangerous or life-threatening. DO NOT attempt a procedure that you do not fully understand. If you have any doubts about doing a procedure contact your Haas Factory Outlet (HFO) and schedule a service visit.

Remove the covers as necessary to get access to the 810/820 cable. The covers are different for different machines.

Step 2

Do this step to replace a cable with an amphenol connector.

Remove all connectors [1] from the connector bracket [3].

Remove the screws [2] from connector bracket [3]. Remove the connector bracket [3] and cable from the SMTC assembly.

Turn the nut [5] on the amphenol connector [4] on the side of the control cabinet. Remove and discard the used cable.

Install the new amphenol connector [4]. Turn the nut [5] on the new amphenol connector [4] to install it onto the control cabinet.

Install the new connector bracket [3] with the (2) screws [2].

Connect the cable connectors [1] to the connector bracket [3].

Step 3

Do this step to replace a cable without an amphenol connector.

Remove all connectors [1] from the connector bracket [3].

Remove the screws [2] from connector bracket [3]. Remove the connector bracket [3] and cable from the SMTC assembly.

Put identification labels on the I/O PCB at the locations of the cables [4] to the I/O PCB you will replace. Remove the cable connectors [4] from the I/O PCB board.

Install the new cables [4] to the I/O PCB. Put the new cable in the same position as the removed cable to the SMTC assembly.

Install the new connector bracket [3] with the (2) screws [2].
