VMC - Probes - WIPS - Operation

This document tells you how to set up and operate a WIPS.The Haas wireless intuitive probing system (WIPS) is a simple way to create and run some basic probing cycles. WIPS uses Renishaw's Inspection Plus macro programs. These programs use special inspection and probing cycles.

VMC - Probes - WIPS - Tool Probe Calibration

Step 1

Press MDI.
Press PROGRM/CONVERS.
Press the RIGHT cursor arrow to go to the SETUP tab.
Press WRITE/ENTER.
Press the RIGHT cursor arrow to go to the TOOL PROBE CALIBRATION tab
Press WRITE/ENTER.

Step 2

Obey the instructions at the bottom of the screen to set the position tabs.

Set the TOOL OFFSET, LENGTH, and DIAMETER values. Set the values to your master tool specifications.

Press CYCLE START to complete the tool probe calibration.

VMC - Probes - WIPS - Work Probe Calibration

Step 1

Press MDI.
Press PROGRM/CONVERS.
Press the RIGHT cursor arrow to go to the SETUP tab.
Press WRITE/ENTER.
Press the RIGHT cursor arrow to go to the WORK PROBE CALIBRATION tab.
Press WRITE/ENTER.

Step 2

Obey the instructions on the lower right-hand side of the screen. You enter a value for each field.
Press WRITE/ENTER to go to the next field.
Press CYCLE START to complete the calibration.

VMC - Probes - WIPS - Work Probe Routines

Step 1

Press MDI.
Press OFFSET to go to the WORK ZERO OFFSET section.

Step 2

Use the RIGHT cursor arrow to go to the PROBE ACTION column.
Press the DOWN cursor arrow to go to the offset to probe. For example, to the G54 row.

Type a number for the probe routine from the illustration at the top of the screen. For example, type 9 for OUTER CORNER.

Press WRITE/ENTER to select it.

Step 3

Press the RIGHT cursor arrow to go to the work probe inputs.

Type the number from the illustration at the upper left. Type the number of the feature to probe. For example, type 1 for bottom left.

PressWRITE/ENTER.

Type values into each of the remaining fields.

Press WRITE/ENTER to accept the values. Press WRITE/ENTER and move from one field to the next.

After the inputs are set, you can press CYCLE START to run the probe or INSERT to copy the probe code to the clipboard.

Step 4

If you pressed CYCLE START, the program that is in operation shows on the left half of the screen.

Step 1

Press MDI.
Press OFFSET.
Press the LEFT cursor arrow to go to the TOOL TYPE column.

Type the number of the tool type to probe.

Press WRITE/ENTER to select the tool.

Step 2

Use the RIGHT cursor arrow to go to the PROBING section.
To select the tool probe:
Press the RIGHT cursor arrow to go to the PROBE TYPE column.

Type the number of the probing type to do.

Press WRITE/ENTER.

Step 3

Use the LEFT and RIGHT cursor arrows to move the LENGTH, DIAMETER, HEIGHT, and TOLERANCE columns for each tool selected.

Obey the instructions under TOOL PROBE HELP.

The instructions change for each column. The illustrations changes to show the required dimension in each column.

Type the required information into each column.

Press WRITE/ENTER after each entry.

The probe description in the PROBE TYPE column will remain red until all of the necessary columns have values in them. The columns change to green after you enter the values.

note: In some versions of mill software you must move the cursor up or down by one tool to see the PROBE TYPE highlight color. Remember to move the cursor back to the tool you want to probe.

 

Step 4

Press TOOL OFFSET MEAS to go to the automatic probe options.

Use the UP and DOWN cursor to go to the automatic probe option you want.

Press CYCLE START to run the probe. Or press INSERT to copy the probe code to the clipboard.

Step 5

To probe more than one tool, use the DOWN cursor arrow. This lets you go to additional tool types.
Use the LEFT and RIGHT cursor arrows to change the probe types. Enter in required information for each tool.

Press TOOL OFFSET MEASto get to the next screen.

Step 6

Use the UP and DOWN cursor to choose the automatic probe option.
Press CYCLE START to operate the probe. Or press INSERT to copy the probe code to the clipboard.

If you pressed CYCLE START, the program in operation shows on the left side of the screen.

If you pressed INSERT, the code is in the clipboard.

Be aware: Many service and repair procedures should be done only by authorized personnel. The service technicians at your Haas Factory Outlet (HFO) have the training, experience, and are certified to do these tasks safely and correctly. You should not do machine repair or service procedures unless you are qualified and knowledgeable about the processes.

Danger: Some service procedures can be dangerous or life-threatening. DO NOT attempt a procedure that you do not completely understand. Contact your Haas Factory Outlet (HFO) and schedule a service technician visit if you have any doubts about doing a procedure.
