Lathe - Hydraulic Power Unit - Oil Filter - Upgrade

This procedure tells you how to install a higher-flow filter [2] for the hydraulic power unit (HPU). Only do this procedure for ST-10/20/30, SL-10/20/30, DS-30 lathes that have an inline filter P/N 58-0875 [1] installed and continuous Alarm 134 (LOW HYDRAULIC PRESSURE).
Safety Notes
Caution: When you do maintenance or repair on CNC machines and their components, you must always follow basic safety precautions. This decreases the risk of injury and mechanical damage.

Do these steps before you do work in the machine or in the control cabinet:
  • Set the main circuit breaker to the OFF position.
  • Use an approved lock with an approved safety tag. Always follow lock-out procedures in accordance to local government rules.
  • After turning off the machine, wait at least 5 minutes before working in the control cabinet, to allow power to dissipate. Wait for the voltage indicator LED on the vector drive to go off completely.
  • Always turn off the main air supply when you work on any part of the pneumatic system.
  • Make sure to rest the spindle head on a block of wood when work is done on a vertical axis. This will prevent any unintended movement that could result in the axis falling.
  • Never alter any safety circuits on the machine.
You should not do machine repair or service procedures unless you are qualified and knowledgeable about the processes. Serious damage to the machine components can result in costly repairs. The service technicians at your Haas Factory Outlet (HFO) have the training and experience, and are certified to do these tasks safely and correctly. The repair and service work performed by your HFO is protected with a limited warranty.
danger: Some service procedures can be dangerous or life-threatening. DO NOT attempt a procedure that you do not fully understand. If you have any doubts about doing a procedure contact your Haas Factory Outlet (HFO) and schedule a service visit.

Prerequisites

Only do this procedure if you have a continuous alarm 134 and these conditions:
  • You have inline filter P/N 58-0875 [1] installed on the machine.
  • The inline filter is clean.
note: Refer to the HPU Oil Filter and Replacement Elements table for information on replacement filter elements.

Parts Included

93-1940
QTY: 1
FILTER, HYDRAULIC UPGRADE KIT OIL (HAAS HPU)

Step 1

Press EMERGENCY STOP.
danger: Wait until there is no pressure in the HPU.
Remove and discard these parts from the HPU:
  • [1] The 90-degree swivel fitting
  • [2] The straight fitting
  • [3] The inline oil filter P/N 58-0875

Keep the 90-degree swivel-fitting and the washer [4] to use with the replacement filter. Use this fitting for the next step.

Step 2

Put together the replacement assembly for the hydraulic oil filter with the filter [6] as shown.

Find the arrow [4] on the filter. Make sure the oil flows in the direction of the arrow.

Use the output 90-degree swivel-fitting with the nut and the washer [1] from step 1.

Install the O-ring boss (ORB) fitting [2]. Install the 90-degree filter outlet fitting [5]. These parts are included with the service kit.

note: Some filter bodies already have ORB fittings attached. Do not install an ORB fitting onto another ORB fitting.

If there is a top nut [3] on the top of the filter, make sure it is tight.

Step 3

For ST-10 models, go to step 4.

Install the new filter to the HPU. Make sure the arrow [1] points in the correct direction. The correct direction is away from the pump.

Find the 90-degree fitting for the filter [2] that is connected to the filter outlet-port.

Connect the new hydraulic hose [3] to the 90-degree filter outlet fitting [2] that is connected to the filter outlet port, and to the fitting on the inlet-port of the heat-exchanger.

note: Use the correct procedure to tighten the fittings. Refer to Hydraulic Power Unit - Hoses and Fittings - Maintenance

Step 4

note: Do this step for the ST-10 only.

Install the new filter to the HPU. Make sure the arrow [1] points in the correct direction. The correct direction is away from the pump.

Connect the new hydraulic hose [3] to the 90-degree filter outlet fitting [2] that is connected to the filter outlet port, and to the fitting [4] on the inlet-port of the heat-exchanger.

note: Use the correct procedure to tighten the fittings. Refer to Hydraulic Power Unit - Hoses and Fittings - Maintenance
